The Last Supper Beneath the Olive Tree

Nearly twenty years after first painting the Last Supper, this new interpretation places Christ and his disciples not within walls, but beneath the wide branches of an ancient olive tree, with Jerusalem rising in the distance. The olive — a symbol of covenant, endurance, and peace — also carries a personal resonance, echoing the survival of a beloved tree that withstood Hurricane Laura.
The scene is alive with movement: disciples mid-conversation, gestures filled with tension and humanity, while the tree stretches above as a steadfast witness. Muted, earthy tones of ochre, deep blue, and soft red create both beauty and ache, while sketch-like lines and washes invite reflection. Beneath the table, a symbolic checkered floor recalls the dualities of existence — light and dark, faith and betrayal, life and death — drawing the viewer into the sacred moment.
This work is both scripture retold and a personal journey of endurance, faith, and survival. “The Last Supper Beneath the Olive Tree” invites you to step into a timeless story where history, resilience, and beauty converge.
