The Crucifixion: Witnesses of Grace

This powerful composition captures the solemn moment of Jesus on the cross, suspended between earth and heaven, radiating both suffering and serenity. Below Him stands a Roman soldier, stoic and armored, embodying the earthly authority that carried out the sentence—yet with a subtle hint of internal conflict etched into his gaze. To one side, the Three Marys—Mary, the mother of Jesus; Mary Magdalene; and Mary of Clopas—are frozen in a moment of shared anguish.  Draped in flowing garments, their presence anchors the scene with feminine strength and spiritual depth.   With them stands the Apostle John, the beloved disciple. His face holds a quiet, loyal anguish as he supports Mary in her grief, fulfilling Christ’s final command to him: “Behold your mother.”
