“The Creation” by Candice Alexander · 2025

The Creation depicts two human figures positioned across an open field of space, connected by the near-contact of their hands. The composition is rendered in sepia and earth tones with dense cross-hatching, anatomical study marks, and visible construction lines across the surface.

On the left side of the composition, a muscular, bearded male figure appears partially suspended in shadow. His body is angled diagonally, with the upper torso and head emerging from darkness. Emphasis is placed on his extended arm, which reaches toward the center of the image. The anatomy of the shoulder, arm, and hand is rendered with detailed musculature and skeletal structure.

On the right side, a second male figure is positioned lower in the frame, rising upward. His head is tilted back, and his gaze is directed toward the approaching hand. His arm reaches upward with fingers open and slightly curved. The two hands approach one another but do not touch, leaving a narrow gap that becomes the central focal point.

The background remains intentionally unresolved, containing faint linear marks, geometric guides, erased lines, and sketch fragments. The paper surface shows tonal staining, irregular texture, and deckled edges. No defined architectural or landscape setting is present.

The Creation is based on the biblical account found in the Book of Genesis, which describes the origin of the world through divine action. In this account, humanity is formed from dust and animated through breath. Creation is presented as an intentional act carried out through gesture, breath, and proximity rather than force or spectacle. The moment depicted corresponds to the threshold between inert matter and living being.

The accompanying lyrics reflect this origin narrative by describing creation as a quiet emergence marked by breath, motion, and light. References to dust, silence, and nearness align with the Genesis account and with the visual emphasis on gesture and proximity. Latin phrases within the text reference light, earth, soul, spirit, darkness, and the source of life.

The song “The Creation,” including its full lyrics, can be found on every major music platform.
