Sacred Heart of Jesus

This piece is my interpretation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—not simply as a symbol to be observed, but as a heart still burning for humanity. Rendered in signature old-world, Renaissance-inspired linework and cross-hatching, Christ emerges from thousands of deliberate marks. The warm, restrained color allows the drawing itself to remain dominant, while the pale halo creates a quiet luminosity around Him.
At the center is the Sacred Heart: wounded, crowned with thorns, surmounted by the Cross, and radiating light. The thorns speak of suffering. The wound speaks of sacrifice. The Cross speaks of redemption. And the light surrounding the Heart speaks of a love that suffering could not extinguish. Jesus is portrayed looking directly outward, creating an intimate encounter between Christ and the viewer. His hands open His garment to reveal the Heart—not hidden, protected, or untouched, but offered.
That is what this piece is ultimately about to me: the revelation of a heart willing to suffer because it loves completely. The visible texture of the paper, the imperfect edges, the dense cross-hatching, and the warmth of the drawing intentionally connect the work to centuries of sacred art and traditional printmaking. This contemporary work is a continuing exploration of faith through art.
