Immaculate Heart of Mary

This work presents the Blessed Virgin Mary in a quiet, intimate meditation on the Immaculate Heart. Rendered through delicate cross-hatching, layered line work, and restrained color, the piece draws from the visual language of Renaissance studies while maintaining the immediacy of a contemporary devotional image.

Mary’s deep blue mantle frames her face and directs the viewer toward the heart she reveals at the center of the composition. Encircled with white roses and crowned with flame, the Immaculate Heart becomes the visual and spiritual focal point of the work—a symbol of purity, maternal love, sacrifice, and complete devotion to God. Fine rays of light extend outward from the heart, illuminating the surrounding folds of fabric and creating a sense of radiance emerging from within.  The warm, parchment-toned ground, visible marks, and hand-worked texture give the image the character of an aged sacred drawing, while Mary’s direct gaze keeps the encounter personal and immediate. Rather than portraying her as distant, the piece presents Mary in an intimate act of revelation: opening her heart before the viewer. The work ultimately reflects a love that is tender yet enduring—a heart fully given to God and continually offered in love for humanity.
